Materials: cardboard, hot glue, watercolor tape
Size: approximately 3’x3’x3′
Function: armchair and storage
Goals:
Create a multi-functional piece
Build a solid structure
Translate a 2-dimensional shape into 3 dimensions
Concept
The design of THE EDGE is inspired by the geometric forms and sharp edges found in origami. THE EDGE brings the basic hexagonal shape into three dimensions by eluding to the distinct folding techniques used in origami and emphasizing the intersection of planes.
The Process
Results
In addition to being a sculptural, geometric piece, THE EDGE is designed to function as an armchair with additional storage behind the seat. The reclined back and armrests provide a comfortable seating option and the storage is incorporated seamlessly into the piece.
